Brief Profile:

Dr.M.Shiva Prakash obtained his Masters Degree in Genetics from Osmania University in the year 1979.Subsequently he was awarded ICMR Fellowship for pursuing PhD from the Department of Gastroenterology, Osmania Medical College and Hospital, Osmania University, Hyderabad. He worked on the research topic entitled “Studies in Serological Diagnosis and epidemiology of amoebiasis” He developed an immunodiagnostic kit for diagnosis of invasive and non-invasive Amoebiasis and was awarded PhD by Osmania University, Hyderabad in the year 1984.
He joined NIN in 1984 as Assistant Research Officer and worked in a project on “Absorption of Vitamin A in diarrhea children treated with oral rehydration solution”. In 1991 he was offered a Post- Doctoral Fellowship by Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA where he carried out research studies in the area of Molecular Biology and Hybridoma Technology etc. After his return from USA he continued his services at the National Centre for Laboratory Animal Science (NCLAS) at NIN wherein he    developed an immunodiagnostic Kit for rapid detection of Streptococcus agalactiae in laboratory animals and for use in humans on a DBT sponsored project.(ICMR Tech.Comm.2006).

                   Presently Dr.Prakash is involved in research studies on “Beneficial effects of Probiotics in Obesity “in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology of Clinical Division at NIN. In addition, he is involved in collaborative research studies with various Universities and Institutes. He is Advisor for MSc students of Genetics, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Nutrition etc. He is a recognized Guide for M.Phil. M.Tech. and PhD from various universities viz., Vinayaka Mission University, Rayalaseema, Annamalai and Bharathidasan Universities etc. In addition he is Honorary consultant to many Biotech. Companies in Hyderabad, India
