Brief Profile:

Dr.S.M.Jeyakumar, worked in National Institute of Nutrition for his doctoral studies and obtained his doctoral degree in Biochemistry from Osmania University, Hyderabad, after completing M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees in Biochemistry from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu. He worked as a Research Associate for nearly a year, later; he joined this Institute as Scientist B in 2006. He is a recipient of “Young Scientist Award” in 2003 from Nutrition Society of India. He is also an “ICMR-International Fellow” and he underwent training in advanced cell culture techniques in the Department of Human Nutrition, Ohio State University, Columbus, USA. His main research focus is to understand how vitamin A metabolic pathway is affected under disease conditions particularly obesity, dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. Also interested in exploring the molecular link between dietary nutrients including vitamin A, various classes of fatty acids and vitamin A metabolism & their relevance to lipid metabolism, adipose tissue development and insulin resistance.
