Brief Profile:

Graduated in Chemistry from Madurai Kamaraj University. Postgraduate and Master of Philosophy degrees from Annamalai University in Biochemistry. Joined 1999, at National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR) for doctoral studies under the guidance of Dr.A.Vajreswari and received Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry from Osmania University, Hyderabad in 2005 and  worked as Post-Doctoral Fellow for a year.  February 2006, joined the institute as Scientist ‘B’, subsequently promoted to scientist “C” and currently holding the position of Scientist “D” and continuing my research in the area of disease biology, molecular nutrition, and fats & oils in human health.
Our research group is comprised of Ph.D. scholars, Project JRFs, Technical officer and supporting staffs.  Our primary research focus is to understand the role of vitamin A, dietary fats in obesity and its associated complications; particularly insulin resistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the role of sex hormones using different experimental models. In addition, our current research focuses on identifying nutraceuticals from vegetables and fruits, possessing anti-adipogenic and insulin-sensitizing properties.
Our research programs are being supported by ICMR and DBT. We use diet-induced, genetic rodent models and mammalian cell line models and our study involves various analytical techniques; including HPLC, GLC and RT-PCR.
