Brief Profile:

Has a PhD in Health Communication from University of Hyderabad. He was ICMR International fellow at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore USA in 2013. Was an international invitee in the Summer School of Risk Communication at Technology University of Dresden, Germany in 2016.

His areas of research interest are Nutrition & Food Safety Communication with special emphasis on nutrition education for adolescents and other groups of community using different media and methods; Nutrition Policy Advocacy.

He has over 45 Research Papers in national and international peer reviewed journals, 10 Book Chapters and edited/authored 4 Books and many popular and newspaper articles to his credit. He has edited a book on ‘Health Communication in developing Countries’ for Palgrave McMillan Publishers which will be released soon. He presented over 40 research papers and many invited talks in various national/international conferences and invited to chair many of them. He scripted and directed educational films on Nutrition, food safety and health alongside developing many communication material. He conducted over 250 awareness sessions and education programmes on nutrition for schoolchildren, women’s groups, industry and academics.

He co-ordinated the activities of the Secretariat of World Health Organization’s (WHO) Southeast Asia Nutrition Research-cum-Action Network of 11 member countries and edited the half-yearly newsletter of the Network from 2004-2012.

He serves as a guest faculty and resource person in Communication for training programmes at prestigious institutes such as University of Hyderabad, Agriculture Universities, LV Prasad Eye Institute, Food & Nutrition Board, ICMR School of Public Health, Symbiosis University.

He is the Chair of the Health Communication Working Group of the International Association of Media and Communication research (IAMCR); He is the treasurer of Nutrition Society of India (NSI); Asian Editor for the American Journal of Health Behavior. He serves on the editorial boards of prestigious journals such as the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (an Elsevier Journal), Frontiers in Communication. He is the Past President and advisor of an upcoming NGO called STARS which works with underprivileged children.

He is a recipient of awards and honors including: Prestigious VN Patwardhan Prize from Indian Council of Medical Research in 2014 for exemplary contribution to nutrition research; finalist in the NASI-SCOPUS Young Scientists Awards 2014 in Social Sciences; IAMCR grant award from International association of Media and Communication research at Dublin, Ireland in 2013; Platinum City Strategist Award from Foundation for Futuristic Cities in 2010, Hyderabad; Young Investigator Grant Award from the International Association for Media and Communication Research at its 2010 Conference in Portugal; Young Scientist Grant Award from PEPSICO at 19th International Congress on Nutrition(ICN) 2009, Thailand; JN Bose Award (Community Nutrition) of Indian Dietetic Association in 2008; Young Scientist Award from Nutrition Society of India in 2004; Young Investigator’s Grant to attend 18th ICN in South Africa in 2005.

Prior to joining NIN, he served in various capacities in TV, Press and Advertising.
