Brief Profile:

Dr. K. Bhaskarachary is a Scientist in Food Chemistry Division. He has a Masters in Life sciences and Ph.D in Biochemistry. His research specialization includes development of analytical methods and generation of databases for nutrients, non-nutrients, anti-nutrients and contaminants and as well as Dietetics. Another important research area that he is currently working on is Bioactive Phytochemicals in Indian foods where identification and determination of carotenoids, poly phenols, organic acids, sterols, stanols, sulpher compounds and alkaloids by using modern analytical instruments (methods) like Fast HPLC, Fast GC, LCMS,GC MS. Also looking at  oxidative cleavage and antioxidant activity of these Bioactive compounds in isolated (or synthetic) or complex admixtures (or food extracts in liposomal systems exposed to oxidative damage through enzymatic, chemical or physical (ultraviolet light) means.

He is a recognized PhD supervisor in Nutrition and Biochemistry and currently guiding students. He was bestowed with Award of Excellence and recognized as a Fellow from Society for Biotechnology in 2011, Young scientist awards from Nutrition Society of India (1995) and Indian Dietetic Association (1993). He visited Australia as visiting fellow in 2000 and gained experience as senior Post Doctoral fellow from Southern University, USA (2002-2004) in the areas of Analytical Toxicology.
